What is Inconvenience Store?

Hey everybody, this is Kiran Cotting here, Inconvenience Store's lead programmer. I'm sure you've all been wondering what this game is about, and today I'm going to tell you.





Inconvenience Store is a physics-based party game where each player is an employee at the Happy Mart grocery store. Players compete in a circuit of various minigames for high scores. When a player wins a particular minigame, they are awarded a shiny gold star for their efforts. At the end of the game, the player with the most wins is crowned "Employee of the Month". Lording your fancy new title over the lesser employees is, of course, encouraged.


If minigames aren't your thing, Inconvenience Store also has a sandbox mode, which allows players to just wander around the grocery store and mess with things to their heart's content.

 

The Minigames


Each minigame has its own rules and scoring system unique to that game. There are currently 5 minigames in development: Cart Collector, The Set Up, Checkout, The Back, and Grocery Guide.


Cart Collector

A frantic minigame where players are tasked with running around the parking lot to collect shopping carts left behind by careless shoppers. The carts can form large stacks, enabling a player to collect multiple at once, but watch out! Customers are constantly pulling in and out of parking spaces, making it easy to have your carts knocked around. Players who collect large amounts of carts at once are awarded more points.


The Set Up


A careless minigame which requires players to team up to re-arrange the merchandise in a section of the store to a new layout. The supervisor isn't watching, however, so players are free to leave the new layout looking... less than pristine. In this minigame, speed matters more than precision. Whoever can get their section of the store in vaguely the right layout the fastest wins!


Checkout


In this minigame, players work together in teams of two to get customers through the checkout line as fast as possible. This means scanning items on an excessively large scanner, throwing them into a bag, and not bothering to give anyone the time of day. You'll have to vigilant though, as some customers, bored with waiting in line, will try to walk out of the store without paying, and it's your job to stop them!


The Back


A minigame centered around platforming. In The Back, a rather insistent customer has requested a specific item, and it's up to the players to check the nebulous back room to see if any of that item is laying around in storage. Players will compete in an obstacle course to see who can climb the shelves and precariously piled merchandise in order to retrieve the item waiting at the top.


Grocery Guide


In Grocery Guide, confused customers are having some trouble finding which aisle their favorite items are in, so it's up to the players to physically drag them to the right location! Make sure to be quick, otherwise the customers might get frustrated with the lack of service.
